Big Jones of Andersonville

I have a new favorite breakfast spot: Big Jones of Andersonville. I knew we had come to the right place when the waitress served us piping hot delicious beignets right after we ordered. These rival those served at Cafe du Monde in N’Orleans and are perhaps just a shade less greasy. My husband and I ordered our old standby “not on a diet” breakfast order: scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese grits. Our orders came with Sally Lunn toast which is more akin to a delectable tea bread. Our plates had thick and meaty Niman Ranch bacon slices nestled next to perfectly cooked eggs along with rich and creamy cheese grits. Tea is served in little clear glass pots with a reservoir for loose tea leaves, an elegant touch. We were the only ones in the restaurant when it opened at 9 AM on a Sunday morning, while down the street, people were lined up waiting to get a table at M. Henry. Psst! You may want to walk a few of blocks south for an equally good if not better breakfast. 5347 N. Clark Street. (773) 275-5725. Coastal Southern Cuisine. www.bigjoneschicago.com
