The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo book and movie

I can now understand why there’s such a craze about Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy. Having recently finished the book “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” I was curious about the Swedish movie version of it. Happily, Netflix just added it to their instant viewing option. The book was a real page-turner but with better prose writing than most thrillers so I thought the film version would suffer in comparison. The movie does not follow the book completely, but it does capture the spirit of the writing. The character of Lisbeth Salander is stunningly played by Swedish-Icelandic actress Noomi Rapace. The Scandinavian scenery is breath-taking. Be forewarned that there are brutal scenes of rape, murder and torture so this film is not for the squeamish. The film, clocking in at almost three hours, never bores. I look forward to reading “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”
