Mariano’s Grocery Store Features Live Music

I have written about Lakeshore East, the neighborhood south of the Chicago River, east of Michigan Avenue and north of Randolph Street and Millenium Park where I found Mariano’s, my new favorite high-end grocery store that’s a cross between Treasure Island and Whole Foods.  I knew I was going to like this place when I heard live music upon entering. One finds aisle after aisle of prepared foods, baked goods, fresh produce, packaged goods, flowers and liquor. There is a pleasant indoor dining area and a delightful outdoor terrace for al fresco meals. I did eventually find where the excellent piano music was coming from: an electric keyboard near the check-out station played by the fleet fingers of Arnold Lanza.

One last thing to note: Mariano’s is courting the Millenium Park/Pritzker Pavilion crowd with picnic dinners for two for $14.99. It’s just a hop and a skip from the Park.

There are four other Mariano’s in the Chicagoland area: Western and Roscoe in the city, Palatine, Arlington Heights and Vernon Hills.
