Best Books of 2013 (three of my favorites)

We read about a group of friends growing up in the 1970’s in “The Interestings” by Meg Wollitzer. Wealth, success, creativity, envy and merely growing up change the friendships in surprising ways.

“Life After Life” by Kate Atkinson is probably the most adventurous writing of the three selections as we follow the life and many deaths of Ursula Todd. The novel is a series of “what ifs” and “the road not chosen” scenarios in our heroine’s life. Still at the end, we have a luminous collage of a life well-lived.

Dense and beautiful writing along with surprising plot twists kept me plowing through all 771 pages of “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt. Reminiscent of a Dickens character, we
meet 13 year old Theo Decker on his odyssey through present day America.

Currently reading Goldfinch. Her secret History was one hell of a book. And so far goldfinch is promising. The other two are on the list but want to read Norwegian by night first.

I read “Norwegian By Night” and loved it. I did a post on it. Thanks for the recommendation.
