The Richard H. Driehaus Museum

An absolute gem is the Driehaus Museum in Chicago’s River North district. Now is a wonderful time to visit as “Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures From The Driehaus Collection” is currently on display through next June 29, 2014. This lovingly restored Gilded Age mansion is the perfect setting for more than 60 Tiffany objects, including vases, lamps, windows and accessories. Just walking from room to room is a time trip back to 1879 when Chicago banker Samuel Nickerson had this gracious home built.
Thanks to Richard Driehaus, the building has been restored to its former glory replete with period furniture and accessories. The guided tour is heartily recommended, although docents readily answer questions about building materials and history on self-guided visits.
