“Where’d You Go Bernadette” for that long air trip

Waiting in airports and on airplanes makes me want a certain kind of book: engaging plot, prose that is not Joycean and humor on every page. I happened upon the perfect selection in “Where’d You Go Bernadette,” a current trade paperback bestseller by Maria Semple. Too bad the cover art brands it as “chick lit” because men would find this a fun transportation read as well. The characters encounter everything from the Microsoft business culture, private schools on both coasts, modern architecture and a trip to Antarctica. Good thing I had this engaging page-turner because my flight was delayed three times. Reading and chocolate were the only things that got me through this aerial ordeal.
