Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, NE

If you find yourself in Omaha on business, visiting relatives or just passing through, put the lovely Lauritzen Gardens on your agenda. Situated on a western bluff of the Missouri River, this 100-acre property within the city limits has been an oasis for residents and tourists for over twenty years.

Opt for the $3 hour-long tour by tram that takes you to all of the major venues in the park: countless gardens, the Sunfu Castle Gate and Mt. Fuji replica, the Model Railroad Garden and two Union Pacific Railroad locomotives stationed in Kenefick Park.

A new $20 million, 20,000-square-foot conservatory housing tropical and temperate plants next to the visitors center will be finished later this year.

The Lauritzen Gardens will be hosting an Antique and Garden Show September 18 – 21 which looks positively alluring. Mary McDonald, the hostess of Bravo TV’s show “Million Dollar Decorator” and the Right Honorable Countess of Carnarvon, billed as the real mistress of Downton Abby will be featured guests. I may have to pay Omaha a visit come fall.
